Minion Hat: Refashions / Upcycling that don't look "cool"

So, my son said to me that he wanted to be a Minion for Halloween. So, we got into action with an old yellow t-shirt and black yarn. I had decided that the easiest way was to sew him a cap and then use toilet rolls to make the goggles. I thought it would be a great refashion / upcycle. Oh no, my son refused to wear it. He said that it looks too babyish and is NOT cool (He's eight by the way). So, I guess he's going to go to the Halloween party as himself - he says it's okay as everyone else will be dressed up as someone else! I'm glad he's okay with it.

Have you done a refashion for your kid and they said it's not cool? At what age will they stop wearing your refashions? :-)

Look, I had the goggles all ready!!! :-(

DIY Weaving Loom

At the beginning of the year, I was very interested in weaving my own coasters. I made a few here and put up a tutorial in the same link.  Now the cardboard weaving loom is really tatty and the all the "pegs" are not sturdy enough to hold the weave.  I decided to "upgrade" into something more sturdy - plastic biscuit boxes.  If I had the woodwork skills, I would make it out of wood, but upcycling a plastic one will have to do for now.

Upcycling / Refashioning Magazines

I've been really busy lately. And this is why .... yipee! GreenCraft in the USA had asked me to write an article and submit the craft for their next edition.  I'm very excited and can't wait :-)

Then on Friday, I got this from a friend who had just finished her studies in England. How nice it is to have friends who know what you enjoy doing :-)

Are there any upcycling or refashioning magazines you love to read? Do share!

Lost your creativity?

One of my favourite books!

Get it back! Well, I don't think you can lose your creativity, it's like riding a bicycle - once you have it it won't go away but maybe it's moments when your mind goes blank and you can't really think of what to make.  Maybe you have fallen out of practice?  I have been feeling like this for the past few months with my refashioning. I usually tell my workshop participants that I find inspiration from my wardrobe and window shopping, but lately.... blank.... It feels like my brain has been emptied and sapped of energy.  Over the past month, I have realised there are creativity killers and creativity boosters.  Here are the things that I have experienced. Do you have any tips on boosting your creativity when it comes to getting crafty? Share them here :-)

Upcycled Cushion Covers Using Scrap Materials

I bought some scrap fabric from Fictive Fingers (they were selling leftovers from their upholstery production) and decided they would be nice on my old cushion covers.
